First Lady Melania Trump took a solo trip to Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday where she visited Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s hospital at Vanderbilt University.Melania was briefed by several doctors and social workers on the opioid epidemic and babies born in this facility who are dependent on drugs.
The briefing, part of a visit to further her “Be Best” initiative, discussed the difficulties the hospital staff, mothers, and babies encounter in their every day lives.
Melania also met with several families who have infants in the neonatal intensive care unit and gifted them with pink, white and blue fleece blankets embroidered with the White House logo.
After the briefing, Melania was excited to meet some of the children that have been treated at the facility and are recovering well.
As soon as Melania walked in the room, she made a beeline for several children who were excitedly awaiting her arrival. She immediately bent down to give them hugs and tell them how excited she was to see them.
The first lady then blew bubbles and got down to the kids table where she played trains with the incredible pediatric patients.
Stephanie Grisham, Melania’s spokesperson told reporters “[Melania] is impressed by their goal here of keeping mothers and children together. She asked them to let her know how she can best use her role to help.”
